Capital One Cup
5th Round of what used to be known as the League Cup and a bunch of other names over the years, Villa reserves currently 2-0 up against what must be a Liverpool kids team!

Just highlights how seriously this Cup competition is taken, maybe time to scrap it as no one seems bothered, not least us who bowed out to the mighty Oxford United.

Bloody competition has had more identities than an internet scam artist. I wish the thing was sponsored by either the egg marketing board (Egg Cup) or Victoria's Secret and called the B Cup.

A repeat of Villa v Leicester from 2000. You know, when we were supposed to play them but Manny Omoyimni played for five minutes as a substitute so we had to replay the match and lost.

My very first League cup match was the 2-2 home draw v Liverpool during October 1973 and the place was seemingly heaving. McDougall and Pop scored for us.

I remember that we gave them a run for their money and almost beat them. Unfortunately, we lost the replay up there.

Re: Capital One Cup
Yes, nice to see 2 PL side taking this seriously, maybe as it’s a competition either can realistically win? Pity West Ham never seem to take any Cup seriously the past few seasons, its all about the PL which we have very little hope of finishing top 6 or 7 let alone winning.

Man City just about getting the better of our conquerors, and fielding a side with a good few first choice players! 1-0 to City at HT.

Dowie seemed to be a good manager in the making, but didn't stick at it.

Those games from 30 years ago still feel current to me now. I used to eat Indian up near the Duke of Edinburgh before every game and watching this makes me fancy a curry..

Just a shame we were so shit in the league that season.

Dowie's own goal was against Stockport. Cheers for the reminder...

I was in the Chicken Run for the Liverpool game and the Villa game that followed. Broke my glasses on the day of the Villa game, but apparently it was a good performance.
I think we played Luton it the semi and absolutely capitulated. All for nothing.
